Great Island Bakery Reviews
We went here on a Tuesday late-morning. I was worried about the shelves being cleaned out but they still had a good selection. We were lucky enough to get an apple turnover fresh out of the oven, and it was divine. The shell was flaky and crispy. Delicious. My daughter had the plain donut and liked it. My husband had the blueberry muffin, but he didn't comment. I am assuming it was good! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
With my family on vacation, we wanted something different for a late morning snack. I went in and ordered a ginger snap, chocolate chip cookie, pistachio muffin, chocolate croissant and a cinnamon bun. Everything was fresh from the oven, and the gingersnap and chocolate chip cookie were both of particularly good caliber. Excellent stop for a snack before you head back to wherever you're going :)
The shop is little and a bit out of the way. Take the time to find it. You must order some cinnamon rolls with icing and some with walnuts. They are both delicious! They have a variety of breads and cookies also. Homemade quiche is offered in a variety of flavors. It is light and fluffy and just the right size for two or three people. Grab a coffee and a bakery treat and sit outside and enjoy the Cape's beautiful morning!
Awesome little bakery hidden away! You might miss it if you're not looking for it. But you most certainly should stop by. They have a variety of desserts to choose from: cookies, pies, sweet breads, cupcakes, muffins, Danish, cinnamon rolls, donuts. They even have savory pot pies and quiches. However, I stopped in at 9am on a Saturday and they looked as if they had been cleaned out. People must have rushed in at opening because a lot of places with labels were empty. There was a sweet little sign that said "donuts" but the entire space was bare--and you could tell there were definitely donuts there not long ago. They must've been good so I'll be sure to get there even earlier next time to snag some more treats. Luckily there were 2 cinnamon rolls left so of course we had to get one! It was very yummy. In fact, everything was delicious. They had the best lemon poppyseed muffin I ever had. Light and moist with the perfect amount of sweetness. I absolutely loved the Danish. Generous amounts of fruit filling. Their apple strudel was to die for! A bit sweet but that's not a bad thing in my book! Loved their chocolate chip cookie as well. Overall, good prices for yummy treats. A perfect stop for sure!
Ive been coming to Great island bakery since I was 6(I'm now in my mid 20s) Its always felt like home. I also worked her for 4 summers. The food is amazing. Breakfast sandwiches, jelly donuts and the CINNAMON ROLLS, don't get me started. I am sad to hear that it is closed for good. It has and always will have a close place in my heart. Nothing will every compare to this place
